Expressing concern over the fallout of Operation Kagar launched by the central government in Chhattisgarh to eliminate Maoists in the region on the lives of the tribals living here, the CPI(M) Polit Bureau in a statement here, said that the government must ensure that no innocent lives are lost.

Since the BJP government took over in 2023 as per the official claims, more than 350 maoists have been killed by the security forces and in this year alone 145 of them have been killed. Operation Kagar was launched by the government in January 2024.

The Polit Bureau in a statement on Sunday (May 4, 2025) issued after its meeting, “The government has to ensure that the lives of innocent adivasis are not lost in the crossfire between the government forces and Maoists.”

The Maoists have proposed a dialogue with the government. In this context, the Polit Bureau said, “The government should accept the offer of peace talks as the issue cannot be resolved only through the use of arms.”

The Polit Bureau meeting was called among other things, to decide on the work allocation among its newly elected members. The work division will be vetted at by the Central Committee in its two day meeting on June 3-5.
