For the first time since the formation of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Thiruvananthapuram region in 2014, its 11-year uninterrupted reign at the top of the region-wise Class XII rankings came to an end on Tuesday.
Vijayawada that had been at Thiruvananthapuram’s heels last year broke the latter’s winning streak with a pass percentage of 99.6. It pipped Thiruvananthapuram to second place by a margin of 0.28 percentage points.
The Thiruvananthapuram region had been dominating both Class X and XII CBSE results for over a decade. This time, though, it could not steal the show, though with a pass percentage of 99.32, it was comfortably ahead of Chennai (97.39%).
The CBSE overall pass percentage was 88.39, 0.41 percentage points more than that in 2023.
The Thiruvananthapuram region score was also a dip from that last year when it registered a pass percentage of 99.91 in the Class XII results.
Of the 41,218 students (20,188 boys and 21,030 girls) who appeared for the Class XII examination from the Thiruvananthapuram region, 40,937 (19,999 boys and 20,938 girls) passed. Girls did marginally better than boys, registering a pass percentage of 99.56 as compared to 99.06 for boys.
Students from 673 schools (671 in Kerala and two in Lakshadweep) took the examination in 238 centres (236 in Kerala and two in Lakshadweep).
Class X
In the Class X results, the Thiruvananthapuram region emerged the topper along with Vijayawada. The region, comprising Kerala and Lakshadweep, registered a pass percentage of 99.79, marginally up from 99.75 last year. The Vijayawada region, which was in second position last year with 99.6%, improved its results to reach the top.
Within the Thiruvananthapuram region, Kerala registered a pass percentage of 99.86 and Lakshadweep 90.69.
Bengaluru was in second position with 98.9% and Chennai (98.71) third. The CBSE overall pass percentage was 93.66, 0.06 percentage points more than that in 2024.
As many as 63,838 (31,983 boys and 31,855 girls) students sat for the examinations from the Thiruvananthapuram region. Of them, 63,705 students (31,901 boys and 31,804 girls) passed. Girls registered a pass percentage of 99.84, performing marginally better than boys (99.74%).
Students from 1,346 schools (1,335 in Kerala and 11 in Lakshadweep) appeared for the examination from 273 centres (264 in Kerala and nine in Lakshadweep).
