The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two persons, including one alleged militant, in connection with the Manipur violence cases.

The NIA has arrested one more “militant” in the case related to the murder of a woman and the burning and looting of houses in a village in Jiribam district. Rajkumar Maipaksana was picked up from Kannur district in Kerala and has been allowed transit remand by the NIA special court in Kochi, Kerala, for production before the Imphal NIA court.

“Rajkumar is associated with the proscribed insurgent group People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK). He was among the key perpetrators of the crime, in which a woman, Zosangkim, was killed and several houses were set afire and looted in Zairawn village in November 2024,” the agency said.

Last week, the NIA had arrested two other accused militants, belonging to different militant outfits.

In another case, one of the “miscreants” involved in the 2024 attack on the India Reserve Battalion post in the Moreh area of Tengnoupal district, in which one Manipur policeman was killed and two were injured on January 17 last year, was arrested.

The accused has been identified as Thangminlar Mate, aka Lenin Mate, a resident of Tengnoupal. He was nabbed in Silchar, Assam, on Sunday (May 19, 2025). Mr. Mate’s affiliation to any militant group is not clear yet, said the agency.
