Ahead of Bakrid, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner C.V. Anand on Thursday held a coordination meeting to ensure proper measures are in place for Bakrid, including additional check posts, animal transport regulations, and proper cleaning and debris disposal measures.
The meeting had officials from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Animal Husbandry, Transport, Electricity, Water works and police units from Cyberabad and Rachakonda to enforce rules and maintain public order during the festival.
The Commissioner ordered immediate establishment of check posts across the city to stop illegal animal transport. “Animals without valid veterinary certificates or not fit for slaughter will not be allowed through. Vehicles caught violating the rules will be seized and diverted to GHMC’s holding centres or goshalas,” said the officer.
He made it clear that only police, GHMC, and Animal Husbandry staff are allowed to inspect such vehicles. Public and vigilante groups have been warned not to interfere. GHMC and Animal Husbandry were told to deploy 24×7 veterinary staff at all check posts.
GHMC is asked to also send out dog-catching squads before the festival, provide carcass disposal covers to every household, and have teams ready on Bakrid day to collect animal waste and garbage. The civic body is expected to arrange heavy-duty vehicles, earthmovers, and extra sanitation workers to clean the debris.
GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan said additional sanitation staff and vehicles will be posted near mosques and in sensitive areas. Garbage bags will be distributed and staff will be on duty throughout. C.V. Anand instructed formation of coordination teams at local, zonal, and city levels to manage any issues that crop up quickly. He added that all departments must work together to ensure Bakrid is peaceful, safe, and clean.
