Rain havoc continues in Idukki

A 55-year-old cardamom estate worker dies while trying to escape when a tree broke and fell in a plantation at Vazhaveedu near Puliyanmala in Idukki on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as a Tamil Nadu resident, Elizabeth. According to police, the incident occurred around 11.30 p.m. The preliminary conclusion is that the woman suffered a heart attack due to shock when a tree broke and fell in the strong wind. The body was shifted for post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, heavy rain continued in the district on Wednesday. According to the district administration, rain-related incidents from May 25 to 28 resulted in two deaths and the destruction of 48 houses in Idukki district. The district administration has opened two relief camps and shifted 58 people. Officials announced the opening of the camps at Maniyarankudy Saleena Charls English Medium School and Mount Carmel Church parish hall in Munnar.

The water level in the Idukki reservoir was 2,336.46 ft as against the 2,333.62 ft the previous day.

The water level in the Mullaperiyar dam on Wednesday was 121.60 ft as against 118.10 ft on Tuesday. The maximum water level fixed by the Supreme Court is 142 ft.
