BJP leader and Member of the Karnataka Legislative Council Shashil G. Namoshi submitted a memorandum to Union Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna on June 1 urging the introduction of new inter-city rail services to improve connectivity across Kalyana Karnataka, and better serve the region’s farmers, teachers, traders, and students.

In his appeal, Mr. Namoshi emphasised the growing necessity of a dedicated inter-city train service linking Kalaburagi with other key urban centres in the region, including Yadgir, Bidar, Raichur, and Ballari. These cities play an essential role in agriculture, commerce, education, and health services, and improved connectivity is expected to significantly benefit rural populations, he said in the letter.

The memorandum highlighted how farmers from remote areas frequently travel to nearby towns to purchase seeds, fertilisers, and agricultural tools. Providing inter-city trains with halts at smaller rural stations would greatly enhance accessibility and reduce dependency on expensive or irregular private transport.

“Such connectivity would also support farmers’ market-related activities, allowing them to sell their produce for better prices and procure farm inputs at most competitive prices,” he stated.

He drew attention to the plight of teachers and lecturers commuting daily from cities to government schools and colleges in rural areas. An inter-city rail network with reliable scheduling and rural stops, he noted, would aid in the efficient delivery of education services.

While commending the Union Government for upgrading infrastructure at rural railway stations over the past 12 years, Mr. Namoshi pointed out that inter-city trains often do not halt at rural stations rendering such upgrades ineffective for regular passengers. He urged the Ministry of Railways to ensure that all inter-city trains include scheduled stops at key rural stations across the region.

Solapur–Hyderabad Intercity train via Kalaburagi

The MLC reiterated his long-standing demand for the introduction of a Solapur–Hyderabad inter-city train service via Kalaburagi. Thousands of people, he said, travel daily between these cities for purposes ranging from business to advanced medical treatment.

“Despite repeated appeals, no concrete steps have been taken yet. A new inter-city train would stimulate economic activity and provide relief to daily commuters,” Mr. Namoshi stated.
