BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran on Wednesday sought the intervention of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, urging him to take immediate steps to fill vacancies of secondary grade teachers by appointing those candidates who had already qualified the eligibility test conducted by the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB).

“Due to a shortage of teachers, students in government schools across Tamil Nadu have been suffering. At this juncture, failing to appoint candidates who passed the eligibility test for secondary grade teacher positions disrupts not only the future of our students and teachers but also the quality of education,” Mr. Nagenthran said in a statement.

He said many candidates who qualified the eligibility test were in distress without jobs. Some of those qualified candidates were aged above 50 and they continue to suffer without getting a teaching job. He also alleged that the DMK which promised to fill secondary grade teacher vacancies in schools during the run up to 2021 elections had failed to do so after coming to power.

“If the State government is unable to provide appointments to teachers who passed the eligibility test, then what is the purpose of conducting exams through TRB? Is it merely to waste the time and crush the hopes of young aspirants who study hard believing that they will get a government job?” he questioned.
