The talks between the employees unions and the three-member committee, constituted by the State government to resolve their long pending issues, ended inconclusively on Wednesday.
Representatives of the Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee, an umbrella body of the more than 200 unions, submitted their 57-point charter of demands to Revenue Secretary Navin Mittal during the first meeting between the two sides on Wednesday evening. The more than two-hour meeting discussed about the regular demands as well as those with financial implications.
The official committee headed by Mr. Navin Mitttal and comprising D.S. Lokesh Kumar and D. Krishna Bhaskar assured the employees representatives that they would take up the issues involving financial implications, such as payment of five instalments of dearness allowance pending since few years, with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
The employees unions were firm that the government concede their demands and the official committee has assured that it would prepare a comprehensive report on their requests for submission to the Chief Minister within a week. The next meeting of the official committee with the TEJAC is likely to be held next week, as employees decided in principle to suspend their proposed plan for launching the agitation with pen down strike in May second week awaiting a positive response from the government.
Employees unions, however, were reported to have expressed their disappointment over the Chief Minister’s remarks in response to their demands. “The Chief Minister’s comments appeared as if he assumed that employees are demanding more than what they are entitled to,” a TEJAC leader said adding they were firm that their demands were justified and were in tune with the assurances made by the government.
The TEJAC had decided to present a strong case with the official committee during the next meeting after which the joint action committee would decide about the future course of action.
Mr. Navin Mittal told The Hindu that the employees unions explained their point of view on the issues during the meeting. “We tried to understand their issues in detail and in-depth,” he said.
But the official committee had pointed out few missing things in the charter of demands putforth by the employees unions and they had accordingly been asked to clarify their stand on them.
