The Nilgiris district administration has released a list of additional events to be held alongside the marquee summer festival events.

The Nilgiris district administration announced in a press release that cultural events will take place at Ooty Lake and the Boat House from May 10 to May 15. A boat race for tourists will be held on May 13, featuring men’s, women’s, and mixed-gender categories. Additionally, a photography exhibition will run from May 7 until May 31.

Those wanting to participate in a photography contest have been asked to send in pictures of the Nilgiris’ unique faunal diversity, its indigenous communities, culture and heritage buildings to photographycontest2025@gmail.com by May 12^th. Organisers have appealed to participants to send images ranging from file sizes of 12 to 30 megabytes.

Moreover, heritage walks, photography walks and food walks have been organized from May 6^th onwards. People interested in participating can sign up for the experiences on the website www.nilgiris.nic.in.

On Wednesday, Nilgiris district collector, Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru appealed to people to not bring in banned plastic products into the district. She also appealed to visitors to not sleep inside their vehicles overnight and to stay in hotels, resorts and lodges citing a lack of safety due to the movement of wild animals. The collector also appealed to visitors to not bring LPG gas cylinders for cooking meals.

“We have issued a gazette notification that transportation of gas cylinders for cooking or other purposes is banned,” she said. Circuit buses are also to be arranged to important tourist places in the Nilgiris.
