18 kg of suspected hybrid ganja worth ₹9 crore seized at Karipur airport in Kerala; two arrested

The Kondotty police seized 18 kg of suspected hybrid ganja reportedly worth ₹9 crore being smuggled from Abu Dhabi through the Calicut international airport at Karipur on Monday (May 12, 2025) night. The police have arrested two persons — Rigil (35) a native of Mattannur and Roshan R. Babu (33) of Thalasseri in Kannur district – in connection with the incident.

The two were awaiting a passenger at the airport and were picked up by the police due to their suspicious behaviour. Upon questioning, they revealed that they were part of a drug-smuggling ring and gave away the details of the person they were waiting for. By that time, the smuggler got away in an airport taxi, but the police contacted the taxi driver and asked him to slow down. The smuggler, who apparently smelled trouble, abandoned his baggage and escaped.

Search is on for the person who left behind a trolley bag that contained the ganja in 14 vacuum sealed packets.
