Heavy rain, thunderstorm likely at some places in A.P. in next four days

Some parts of Andhra Pradesh witnessed rainfall accompanied by gusty winds on Friday (May 16).

Masada in Hukumpeta mandal of Alluri Sitharama Raju district and Ankampalle in Beluguppa mandal of Anantapur district recorded the highest rainfall of 18.5 mm (considered light), followed by Lingala in Lingala mandal of YSR Kadapa district (17.0 mm), Dekanakonda in Kurichedu mandal of Prakasam district (16.0 mm) and Pyampadu in Ananthagiri mandal of Alluri Sitharam Raju district (15.5 mm) from 8.30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday.

The Weather Department has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 60 km per hour in the next four days. According to the predictions, heavy rain is likely at isolated places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP) and Yanam and thunder storm accompanied with lightning is likely at some places in North Coastal and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema on May 17 (Saturday).

Parts of Rayalaseema are likely to receive heavy rain on Monday and Tuesday. The weather alert says there may not be a significant change in maximum temperatures till May 22.

The IMD said weather conditions are currently favourable for the Southwest Monsoon to move further into more areas over the next two to three days. These include parts of the south Arabian Sea, Maldives and Comorin area, South Bay of Bengal, the remaining areas of the Andaman Islands and Andaman Sea, and some parts of the central Bay of Bengal.
